Erebuni Fortress

Erebuni Fortress rises sixty-five meters above the surrounding plain on a hill called Arin Berd. This ancient Urartian site, founded in seven eighty-two before the common era by King Argishti the First, served as a military and administrative stronghold along the kingdom's northern border. The name of the modern capital, Yerevan, derives directly from the name of this fortress.
