Beenleigh State School sits on James Street as one of the oldest continuously operating schools in Queensland. It opened on February sixth, eighteen seventy-one, with ninety-seven pupils. A public tea meeting attended by two hundred people marked the occasion. Before nineteen twenty-five, the institution was known as Beenleigh State Rural School.
