Snapper Rocks is a distinct, jagged rocky outcrop located on the northern side of Point Danger at the southern end of Rainbow Bay. While today it is recognized globally for its surfing, the site owes its name to the colonial cutter ship HMS Snapper, commanded by William L. Edwardson, which passed this stretch of the coast in July eighteen twenty-two.
