The iconic globe at the main entrance identifies this site as Dreamworld, the largest theme park in Australia. It occupies fifty-five hectares in Coomera, an area that was largely rural land before developer John Longhurst purchased eighty-five hectares here in nineteen seventy-four. Longhurst moved to the Gold Coast in nineteen seventy-six and spent years personally shaping the site, including the excavation of a man-made waterway called the Murrissippi River.
