The Museum of Old and New Art, known as MONA, sits on a peninsula in Berriedale and is identifiable by its low, unassuming profile that gives little hint of the massive labyrinth carved into the sandstone cliffs beneath it. Unlike traditional galleries, this museum is largely subterranean, with three levels built directly into the bedrock overlooking the River Derwent.
