Half Moon Bay is a distinct, crescent-shaped curve of sand on the shores of Port Phillip, instantly recognizable for the rusting, partially submerged hulk of the HMVS Cerberus sitting just offshore. Once the flagship of the Victorian colonial navy, this iron-clad warship was built in eighteen seventy as a revolutionary breastwork monitor. Though the vessel was designed to defend the colony with heavy rotating gun turrets, it never fired a shot in battle during its decades of service.
