Stirling Square is a public park defined by its perimeter of large sugar gum trees and its central location in the historic town of Guildford. Surveyed in eighteen twenty-nine as part of the original colonial town plan, the site was long known as Church Square. It remains a focal point for the local community, housing the Talbot Hobbs Memorial Gates at its southeastern corner and the historic Saint Matthew's Church on its western side.
