Am Hof

Am Hof is the largest square in Vienna’s inner city, dominated by the bronze Mariensäule at its center. This square occupies ground that once held a Roman military camp and, in the twelfth century, the castle residence of Duke Henry the Second of the Babenberg dynasty. When the court later relocated, the open space transitioned into a central market, a tradition that persists today through seasonal fairs.
