Heiligenkreuzerhof

The Heiligenkreuzerhof is a complex of courtyards and residential buildings distinguished by the presence of the Bernardikapelle, a baroque chapel tucked within the ensemble. Owned by the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz since the thirteenth century, this site is frequently cited as the oldest apartment building in Vienna. The current layout takes the form of a quiet, multi-story courtyard passage connecting Schönlaterngasse and Grashofgasse, sheltering medieval foundations beneath later baroque facades.
