Four tall white pillars rise from the ground here, marking the site where the Leopoldstädter Tempel once stood as the largest and most magnificent synagogue in Vienna. Completed in eighteen fifty-eight according to the plans of architect Ludwig Förster, the building featured a distinctive Moorish Revival style that influenced synagogue architecture across Europe. It served as a spiritual and cultural heart for the city's Jewish community, accommodating two thousand worshippers within its richly decorated walls.
