The Heydar Aliyev Center is recognizable by its expansive, flowing white form that appears to fold upward from the ground without a single sharp angle. Designed by architect Zaha Hadid and completed in twenty-twelve, the structure replaces a former engineering plant on a site that once manufactured oil extraction machinery. Its sweeping, curvilinear shape is composed of glass fiber reinforced concrete and polyester panels, creating a continuous skin that connects the building directly to the surrounding plaza.
