Villa Petrolea is a collection of buildings characterized by their Byzantine style and sandstone construction. Built between eighteen eighty-two and eighteen eighty-four, this site served as a residential settlement for the employees of the Nobel brothers’ petroleum company, Branobel. It stands on the edge of the industrial district once known as Black City, where the brothers sought to provide their staff with a living environment far removed from the surrounding oil refineries and heavy pollution.
