The Terrace of the Elephants is a three-hundred-fifty-meter-long sandstone wall, two and a half meters high, defined by its life-sized carvings of elephants with their mahouts. Built in the late twelfth century, this massive platform sits at the heart of Angkor Thom, the former capital of the Khmer Empire. It was once attached to the royal palace, Phimeanakas, serving as a grand stage where King Jayavarman VII stood to oversee military parades, public festivals, and the return of his victorious armies.
