Lake Minnewanka is the longest lake in the Canadian Rockies, stretching twenty-one kilometers through the eastern portion of Banff National Park. Its deep, glacial waters are framed by jagged mountain peaks and are known to the Stoney Nakoda First Nations as Minn-waki, or Lake of the Spirits. While the landscape appears rugged and natural, the basin is a reservoir created by human engineering.
