Empire Fields consists of a sprawling, fifteen-acre complex of modern sports grounds marked by its vibrant green synthetic turf pitches and a distinctive six-hundred-meter running track. These grounds occupy the exact footprint of the legendary Empire Stadium, which was built for the nineteen fifty-four British Empire and Commonwealth Games. That original stadium gained global fame for the Miracle Mile, where Roger Bannister and John Landy both finished in under four minutes. A bronze statue of the two runners, capturing Landy glancing back just as Bannister surged ahead, overlooks the current fields.
