St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral

religious

St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral is recognizable by the distinctive copper domes crowning its roof. This building on Riverside Drive represents the spiritual home for a community that traces its roots in Ottawa back to the early nineteen hundreds. The parish began in nineteen twenty-nine, when a small group of immigrant families from Kfar Mechki, Lebanon, established a congregation. For many years, these worshippers gathered at a downtown location until the need for a larger space led to the construction of this current cathedral between nineteen ninety and nineteen ninety-two.
