Cageux Wharf is distinguished by a white observation tower that rises more than twenty meters above the St. Lawrence River, its luminescence designed to echo the signal of a lighthouse. This structure is a central component of the Promenade Samuel-De Champlain, built to coincide with the four hundredth anniversary of Quebec City in two thousand eight. The site draws its name from the cageux—the daring raftsmen of the nineteenth century who guided massive rafts of timber down the river from the Ottawa region.
