San Cristóbal Hill

natural

San Cristóbal Hill rises eight hundred and eighty meters above sea level, identifiable by the towering statue of the Virgin Mary that crowns its summit. Known to indigenous Mapuche people as Tupahue, meaning place of god, it was later renamed by Spanish conquistadors in honor of Saint Christopher. The hill sits within the Santiago Metropolitan Park, an expanse of over seven hundred hectares that serves as a central green space for the city.
