Maximo Gomez Monument

The monument to Máximo Gómez stands on a traffic island near the entrance to Havana’s harbor, distinguished by a massive base of white marble and a bronze equestrian statue. Erected in nineteen thirty-five, the structure features the general mounted on his horse, with his gaze directed defiantly toward the sea. Italian sculptor Aldo Gamba designed the memorial, incorporating bas-reliefs and the figure of a winged goddess into the platform’s composition.
