The Ethiopian National Theatre is recognized by its distinctively modern facade and the grand, spacious interior that houses a twelve hundred-seat auditorium. Located in the heart of Addis Ababa, the building originated during the Italian occupation as a smaller cinema called Cinema Marconi. After the occupation ended, the structure was repurposed and significantly expanded to its current form, officially opening in nineteen fifty-five to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Emperor Haile Selassie.
