The Île de la Barthelasse is a vast, flat expanse of green fields and orchards wedged between two arms of the Rhône River, directly across from the historic ramparts of Avignon. At nearly ten square kilometers, it is recognized as one of the largest river islands in Europe, defined by its rural landscape and its long history as a fertile agricultural hub for the nearby city.
