The Avignon TGV station is easily recognized by its massive, elongated roof that resembles an upturned canoe. Constructed of concrete, glass, and steel, this curving structure stretches three hundred forty meters in length and stands nearly fifteen meters tall. Architects Jean-Marie Duthilleul and Jean-François Blassel designed the station to evoke the speed of the high-speed trains it serves, creating a light-filled interior that some observers compare to a modern cathedral.
