The Abbaye de Lérins is defined by the fortified tower-monastery that rises prominently from the rocky southern shore of Île Saint-Honorat. This monumental structure, built between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries, serves as a testament to the island's long history as a vulnerable outpost off the coast of Cannes. The site originated around the year four hundred and ten, when Saint Honoratus arrived to live as a hermit, only to be joined by disciples who transformed the island into a major center of early Christian life.
