Schloss Solitude

historic

Schloss Solitude sits on an elongated ridge west of Stuttgart, characterized by a distinct, symmetrical layout where a central domed building is flanked by two sprawling, semicircular wings. Commissioned by Duke Charles Eugene of Württemberg and constructed between seventeen sixty-four and seventeen sixty-nine, the palace was intended to serve as a private hunting retreat far from the pressures of court life. The architects Philippe de La Guêpière and Johann Friedrich Weyhing designed the structure to blend late Rococo and early Neoclassical styles, creating a setting for the Duke’s lavish hunting parties and social gatherings.
