The W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture occupies a leafy residential plot in the Cantonments district of Accra. It is defined by a modest, low-slung bungalow, which served as the final home of the American scholar and civil rights pioneer William Edward Burghardt Du Bois. He moved to Ghana in nineteen sixty-one at the invitation of President Kwame Nkrumah to lead the Encyclopaedia Africana project, eventually renouncing his American citizenship to become a Ghanaian.
