The Akrotiri Lighthouse sits on the southwestern tip of Santorini, marked by a square, ten-meter stone tower that rises directly above a whitewashed keeper's house. Built in eighteen ninety-two by a French company, it stands as one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece. Its construction occurred during the period of Ottoman rule, when the island was establishing its maritime safety network.
