The Hung Shing Temple is recognizable by the series of large, original granite boulders that remain embedded directly into its back walls and interior floor. Built around eighteen forty-seven, the temple was once a shoreline altar where local fishermen prayed for safe passage. Its name is preserved in the nearby Tai Wong Street East and West, as Tai Wong is an alternate title for the sea deity Hung Shing.
