The Lotus Temple is defined by its twenty-seven free-standing, marble-clad petals, which are arranged in groups of three to form a nine-sided structure. This Bahá’í House of Worship in New Delhi is built of white concrete and covered in pristine marble sourced from Mount Penteli in Greece. The building rose from a design by the Iranian-American architect Fariborz Sahba, who was commissioned in nineteen seventy-six to create a space that would embody the principles of unity and inclusiveness.
