Prithvi Theatre in the Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai is marked by a raw, industrial aesthetic visible from the outside, defined by large metal girders that frame the structure. Established in nineteen seventy-eight, this two-hundred-seat venue was the realization of a dream held by the legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor, who had spent years touring India with his own repertory company. After his death in nineteen seventy-two, his son Shashi Kapoor and daughter-in-law Jennifer Kendal Kapoor turned his vision into a permanent reality by converting what had been a storage unit for the old troupe.
