The Monsoon Palace sits high on the Bansdara peak of the Aravalli hills, its white marble walls glowing against the skyline. Maharana Sajjan Singh, the seventy-second ruler of the Mewar dynasty, commissioned the structure in eighteen eighty-four. He envisioned a nine-story astronomical center that would allow him to monitor the arrival of monsoon clouds and observe his ancestral home, Chittorgarh, from across the plains.
