Fatehpur Sikri Fort

Fatehpur Sikri is defined by its extensive use of red sandstone, which gives the entire complex a uniform, deep-toned appearance as it rises above the surrounding plains. Built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar beginning in fifteen seventy-one, the city was conceived as a new capital for the empire. Akbar chose this specific ridge because it was home to a Sufi saint named Shaikh Salim Chishti, who had correctly predicted that the then-childless emperor would be blessed with three sons.
