ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Tollygunge, Kolkata

The ITC Sangeet Research Academy is housed within a colonial-era mansion characterized by its white exterior, situated in the Tollygunge district of Kolkata. Built over two hundred years ago, the structure once belonged to an heir of Tipu Sultan. Today, the site functions as a modern gurukul, an institution established in nineteen seventy-seven to revive the traditional guru-shishya parampara, or master-disciple system, of training in Hindustani classical music.
