Keraton Ratu Boko

landmark

Keraton Ratu Boko is defined by massive stone gateways that stand as distinct silhouettes against the horizon. Perched on a plateau one hundred ninety-six meters above sea level, this expansive archaeological site overlooks the Yogyakarta plain and the Prambanan temple complex three kilometers to the north. Unlike the strictly religious monuments common to this region, the site features walls, defensive ramparts, bathing pools, and living quarters that suggest it functioned as a fortified palace or royal residence during the eighth century.
