Prambanan Temple is identified by its towering stone spires that rise forty-seven meters above the central grounds. Built in the ninth century by the Sanjaya Dynasty of the Mataram Kingdom, this site remains the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. It was designed to honor the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, with its layout representing the cosmic mountain, Meru. The complex originally included two hundred and forty individual structures, many of which were reconstructed after being leveled by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
