Piazza di Porta Ravegnana

Piazza di Porta Ravegnana is defined by the sight of two leaning medieval skyscrapers, the Asinelli and the Garisenda towers, which rise at the intersection of five historic streets. These structures were built by noble families between eleven hundred nine and eleven hundred nineteen to serve as both defensive watchtowers and displays of political and social standing. During the Middle Ages, the city skyline was crowded with dozens of such towers, yet these two remain the most prominent features of the area.
