Campo dei Gesuiti

historic

The Campo dei Gesuiti is defined by the imposing presence of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, whose facade is punctuated by twelve monumental statues of the Apostles. This square in the Cannaregio district sits near the northern edge of the city, an area that has been a center for religious life since the twelfth century. The current church was built between seventeen fifteen and seventeen twenty-nine, funded by the wealthy Manin family, who sought a site for their own burial monument.
