The Muromi River flows fifteen point one kilometers from its source in the mountains of Itoshima to the waters of Hakata Bay. Paved paths trace both sides of the waterway for about eight point five kilometers, forming a continuous route for pedestrians and cyclists that extends from the residential districts toward the coast. Local residents utilize these riverbank paths for exercise, and the river supports an ice goby fishery. The channel passes through the city, flowing under several bridges that connect the Nishi and Sawara wards before the water empties into the sea.
