Kuhonji

religious

Kuhonji Temple sits on the slopes of Kaina-san mountain, distinguished by the collection of one thousand stone Buddha statues carved directly into the hillside. These small, weathered figures, known as the Thousand Buddhas, were created during the Nanbokucho period by the local Narahara clan. The family commissioned the carvings as a memorial to honor their warriors who fell in battle, turning the steep hillside into a site of religious devotion and remembrance.
