Sumiyoshi Shrine

Sumiyoshi Shrine stands on the artificial island of Tsukuda, a site created in the sixteen hundreds as a hub for fishermen from the village of Tsukuda in Osaka. The shrine is distinct for its ceramic plaque on the second torii gate, an unusual feature for a Shinto site, which bears an inscription by the imperial prince Arisugawa Takahito.
