Inokashira Park is defined by the narrow, winding Inokashira Pond that anchors its center, its surface often hidden beneath the drifting petals of hundreds of cherry trees. Opened in nineteen seventeen as Japan's first suburban park, the grounds were originally an imperial gift bestowed by the Emperor to the public. The area spans Musashino and Mitaka, offering a dense woodland landscape that long predates the surrounding city expansion.
