Rātslaukums, or Town Hall Square, is a cobbled plaza in the heart of Riga’s Old Town defined by the ornate, gabled facade of the House of the Blackheads. This square has functioned as the city’s administrative and civic core since the thirteenth century. While the buildings surrounding the open space were almost entirely destroyed during World War II, they have since been painstakingly reconstructed to reflect their historical appearance.
