Hierve el Agua is defined by its two massive, bright white rock formations that drape over the edge of the mountainside like waterfalls frozen in time. These structures are not water at all, but rather vast deposits of calcium carbonate and other minerals. Over thousands of years, mineral-rich spring water has bubbled up from the earth and trickled down these cliffs, leaving behind thick, calcified layers that mimic the shape and flow of falling water.
