Cenote Sac Actun is recognized by the distinct, soft blue glow of its water, which contrasts with the dark, jagged limestone walls of the surrounding cavern. The name Sac Actun, which translates to white cave in the Yucatec Maya language, refers to a vast, flooded underground river network stretching over three hundred and sixty kilometers beneath the jungle floor. This site serves as one of the primary access points to that system, where the ceiling has collapsed to reveal a passage filled with stalactites and clear, cool water.
