La Corniche is the sweeping five-kilometer Atlantic seafront promenade of Casablanca, stretching westward from the Hassan II Mosque through the Ain Diab district. You can identify the strip by its continuous line of palm-fringed walkways, oceanfront seafood terraces, and saltwater pools built directly into the coastal rocks. Developed as a seaside resort during the French Protectorate in the nineteen-twenties and nineteen-thirties, the area shifted the city's focus from its inward-looking medina and busy port toward the open water.
