Hercules Caves

landmark

The Caves of Hercules are marked by a distinctive sea-facing opening that traces the silhouette of the African continent. This cavern complex sits on the Atlantic coast near Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The site is a mix of natural limestone formations shaped by centuries of wave action and extensive excavations made by local Berbers, who carved deep into the rock to produce millstones.
