The International Mountain Museum is recognizable by a thirty-one-foot replica of Mount Manaslu that stands within its grounds. Initiated by the Nepal Mountaineering Association, the institution was built to record and preserve the history of global mountaineering and the cultures of people living in high-altitude regions. Its foundation stone was laid in December of nineteen ninety-five, and it officially opened to the public on February fifth, two thousand four.
