Tikitere is defined by billowing clouds of steam, constant sulfurous plumes, and pools of boiling mud that mark one of the most active geothermal fields in New Zealand. Known locally as Hell's Gate, the area features a landscape of fumaroles, steaming lakes, and the Kakahi Falls, a four-meter-tall cascade recognized as the largest hot waterfall in the southern hemisphere.
