Fantoft Stave Church

religious

The Fantoft Stave Church is defined by its soaring, tiered silhouette and dark wooden walls, which rise with a sharp verticality typical of medieval Norwegian architecture. Originally built around the year eleven-fifty in the village of Fortun, the structure was saved from demolition in eighteen-eighty-three when a local businessman named Fredrik Georg Gade purchased it. He had the entire church dismantled and relocated piece by piece to its current site in Fana, where it served as a private chapel for his family.
