The Lingqu Canal flows as a narrow, man-made waterway through Xing'an County, serving as a passage that connects the Xiang River and the Li River. By joining these two rivers, it creates a historic link between the Yangtze and Pearl River basins. Completed in two hundred fourteen BC, this engineering work was commissioned by Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of the Qin dynasty. He ordered the construction under the direction of an imperial inspector named Shi Lu to solve the logistical challenge of transporting grain and military supplies to southern territories.
