The Du Fu Thatched Cottage is recognizable by the traditional, quiet garden complex that stretches along the Huanhua Stream, defined by its pathways, ancient trees, and series of halls arranged along a central axis. This site commemorates the Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu, who fled the An Lushan Rebellion and sought refuge in Chengdu during the year seven hundred fifty-nine. With help from local friends, he built a modest home near the creek, where he lived for nearly four years and composed over two hundred forty poems.
